Treading on Broken Water
63Teenage Wails
Ego Identity. That's what psychologists deemed that phase of life as. The phase where adolescents yearn for life experiences like addicts looking for their next fix. The phase in which they desperately try to discover who they really are and what they're made of.
Individuals during that phase attain the curiosity to experiment with anything and everything. They have very little ability of realizing the long term effects of their actions but claim to have so. In actual fact, impulsivity reigns victorious during that stage thus bringing rational thinking to a level almost nil.
I was going through some old stuff in my computer and stumbled upon a poem I wrote back in 2002. I was 19 years old. An age where passion blind-sights reality and denial was mistaken for the truth. It was fun reminiscing for that two whole minutes. It was fun.
Hope you like it.
A Poem I Call "Me"
I've got a mirror that stands before me,
Portraying an image that begs for pity,
Yet in its own silence,
His suffering even to himself is a mystery,
The meaning he finds behind the glass,
Are nothing but memories covered with rust,
Once a boy with ambitions,
Now they're shattered and have been burnt to dust,
A typical teenager going through a phase,
They call it pre-adulthood stage,
They keep forgetting,
A journey can't start without steps taken today,
Serenity in needles he constantly seeks,
Climbing up the skies in smoky acids,
Burning dust through the barrel,
With every whiff he fights his beasts,
So there bears the portrait of silent fear,
It'll stay a week,a day or even a year,
Facing his own reflection,
What starts with a smile always ends with a tear.
